Description
My work in schools has been one of the greatest privileges of my career, along with meeting teachers, working collaboratively to support students’ needs, and finding solutions to enhance a child’s well-being, while helping them function and thrive in their classroom environment.
I often get asked by schools and teachers how to help cultivate a more sensory-friendly classroom environment to help students function in their most optimal and regulated state. I listened to teachers and their questions, concerns, and feedback, and given my knowledge of the sensory processing system and how it can be impacted by one’s environment, I have devised a guide filled with information to help teachers create a sensory-friendly classroom to support and meet their students’ needs.
This guide does not substitute the need for an individual occupational therapy assessment for students as an assessment will help identify the specific sensory needs that a child presents with and will help provide strategies that cater to their specific needs. However, I know that it can sometimes take time for a student to be assessed, so I devised this guide as a general sensory resource for classrooms that can benefit the whole classroom and help teachers better understand their students’ needs, and why they might be exhibiting a particular behavior.
This would also make a perfect gift for a teacher, whether it’s your child’s teacher or any other teacher you’d like to gift with this information- I’m sure it will be appreciated.
I am always in awe of teachers, and their dedication to their students’ learning and needs. I am delighted to be able to provide a resource to teachers!
